The Columbia softball team's scheduled non-league doubleheader on Tuesday at Fairfield University was cancelled yesterday afternoon due to poor field conditions. After a weekend of continuous rain, the field was deemed unplayable early yesterday morning, and the impending games were called off.

Because Fairfield (29-24-2 overall, 10-2 MAAC) has had to reschedule some of their conference games, the doubleheader against the Lions (24-19, 5-9) will not be made up at a later date.

The Light Blue close out the 2002 regular-season on the road this Saturday against Rutgers. The Lions are in the middle of a three game losing streak, but with 24 wins so far this season, the team is still hoping to make a case for an at-large bid to the ECAC tournament with some strong play this weekend.
