Hip-hop artist Wyclef Jean was hospitalized Wednesday for exhaustion and dehydration due to food poisoning, raising questions about his availability to perform at Columbia University's C250 concert this Saturday.
A representative from Jean's label, J Records, confirmed Thursday afternoon that Jean was still in the hospital in Miami. J Records publicist Lois Nafarian told the Associated Press that Jean was expected to be hospitalized through the weekend.
He has cancelled some bookings for next week, including a scheduled appearance on GQ's Men of the Year Awards on Tuesday.
But as of yesterday afternoon, C250 planners said they had not written him out of this weekend's show.
"We are being updated by his management," said Elizabeth Golden, senior public affairs officer at Columbia. "As of now he is scheduled to perform on Saturday."
Jean's illness apparently developed on his way home from a tour in Europe, where he was promoting his new record The Preacher's Son. The album will come out next month.
His Columbia show is scheduled to take place on Saturday from 5:30 to 10:00 p.m. outside Butler Library. Also on the program is Erykah Badu.
