The Notwist
Melancholic German electro-acoustic superstars the Notwist visit New York for the first time this year in support of their new EP, Different Cars and Trains. The EP, which features half-baked remixes of previously released material, may not be much cause for excitement, but the rare chance to see the Notwist live in concert certainly is. Boasting a live show that seamlessly melds together electronic elements with traditional rock instrumentation, the Notwist can put on an eclectic and intense performance, as proven by their last visit to New York last spring, when they played at the Knitting Factory. Catch them this time around at one of two dates at Bowery. Underground hip-hop duo Themselves open.
Oneida
Brooklyn's psych heroes, Oneida, perform a midnight show at Tonic today, celebrating the release of their fifth full-length album, Secret Wars. Known for their trance-inducing, eardrum-popping sets, Oneida are generally considered to be an act best seen live. After Oneida finish up their midnight set, catch British garage-rock eccentric Dan Melchior; the two acts promise to make enough noise to make you deaf by the next morning.
