Spectator has learned that David Charlow, CC '85, Business '92, and the director of undergraduate financial aid, is one of at least nine candidates for the position of athletics director. Spectator has also confirmed that Howard Endelman, CC '87, University of Pennsylvania Associate Athletic Director Mary DiStanislao, Yale Associate Athletic Director Barbara Chesler, and Ramapo College Athletic Director Eugene Marshall have interviewed for the job.

Charlow was a rower on the Columbia crew team for four years. He served as an assistant coach for the Lions' lightweight crew team from 1987 to 1989.

While Charlow is not directly part of the athletic department, he is regularly in touch with coaches and athletic personnel as part of his duties overseeing financial aid. Charlow is believed to be the only finalist coming from within Columbia.

According to sources familiar with the search, University President Lee Bollinger plans to cut the list of candidates down to three finalists in the near future. While Bollinger chairs the search committee, he has not sat in on most, if any, of the interviews. He does plan to become more actively involved, however, once the list is whittled down to three.
