Many Columbians underestimate one of the more convenient aspects of living in New York: in under an hour, any imaginable type of food can be delivered to your doorstep. Although it’s appealing to spend a couple of hours in a restaurant where the ambiance is tuned to the food on your plate, it’s also appealing to eat in the comfort of your own room—or Butler. Instead of trudging through the snow for a sit-down dinner, try takeout, a much more enticing alternative.
Even if we walk by them daily, we may not realize that many of the Morningside’s most popular restaurants have takeout options. Café Swish, for example, still stands out as one of our neighborhood’s most reliable restaurants with consistently good food. Lime Leaf is one of the best Thai restaurants in the city and hits the spot for a clean, light dinner. Turkuaz serves wonderful calf’s liver, fried eggplant cubes in tomatoes, shepherd’s salad, and kebab.
But be forewarned: delivery at your favorite sit-down restaurant may not deliver. Although Kitchenette Uptown offers wonderful morning fare, their takeout falls flat. While breakfast in bed may sound like a tantalizing luxury, the fact that the delivery men can’t locate dorms within an hour is a problem.
Having meals delivered to our doors is a resource we don’t tap often enough. So, rather than venturing to Ollie’s in the dead of winter, take comfort in the warmth of your room and opt to eat in.
