Presented by the Department of Theater at Barnard College, Jean Genet’s The Maids runs only this weekend in Minor Latham Playhouse. The murderous one-act play concerns Claire and Solange (the eponymous maids) and their desire to kill their mistress, Madame. Genet’s clever work, translated from the original French, is rife with ambiguity and upset theatrical conventions. Questions of sexuality, gender, and existence are raised in the often schizophrenic tragedy. Directed by Denny Partridge and Steven Friedman, the show is free tonight and Sunday.—JS
