Kyle Ambrogi, a senior running back on the Penn football team, died Monday night of an apparent suicide. Ambrogi, who attended Wharton, Penn's undergraduate business school, was 21 years old.
Just two days earlier, the senior experienced one of the highlights of his football career when he scored two touchdowns in the Quakers' 53-7 victory over Bucknell. His brother, Greg Ambrogi, a Wharton sophomore and defensive back on the football team, also scored a touchdown in the game after recovering a fumble.
Kyle Ambrogi played in every game at Penn dating back to his sophomore year. A Pennsylvania native, Ambrogi attended St. Joseph's Prep High School and was the 2001 Catholic League Player of the Year and the 2001 Philadelphia City Player of the Year.
The Penn football team, which sits in a tie atop the Ivy League standings, will play with heavy hearts this Saturday, when they face Columbia at 1 p.m. at Wien Stadium during Columbia's homecoming.
