Crash This B'Way Wedding

Cheap and tacky takes on a whole new sense of cool in The Wedding Singer. This new Broadway hit was nominated for five Tony Awards last year, and it's clear why. Based on the movie starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, The Wedding Singer captures Jersey in all of its '80s splendor-prepare to be blinded by pink leggings, huge hair, and oversized cell phones. Like other romantic comedy musicals (ahem, Hairspray), you'll leave feeling giddy, with your hands clapping to the synthetic beats long after you've left the theater. Stephen Lynch rocks as the soulful wedding singer who turns bitter after his fiance leaves him at the altar. A newcomer to the Broadway stage, Lynch (right) accurately captures Sandler's humor. Characters like George (yes, a Boy George impersonator) and the promiscuous grandmother (yes, a frail granny describing her sexual exploits) sustain the comedy throughout the show.
