A 15-year-old boy was murdered a block from his home on Friday.
Jose Batista was shot outside 522 W. 134th St. at the corner of Amsterdam Avenue, at about 8:45 p.m., a block from his 133rd Street home in the Manhattanville Houses.
Another man, who has not been identified, was shot in the same incident and is in stable condition.
“I just heard the shots and I ran, man,” said Martinez Woods, a local resident who was standing about 200 yards away, around the corner at the time of the shooting.
Police from the 30th precinct first arrived on the scene Friday night, responding to 911 calls reporting that men had been shot. When they arrived, the police discovered Batista and another young man, both of whom had sustained gun shot wounds to the abdomen.
Batista was taken to St. Luke’s hospital and pronounced dead on arrival, while the other victim, also a minor, was taken to Harlem Hospital, where he was listed as in stable condition.
A police investigation is ongoing, but no arrests have been made to date.
