Much-awaited admissions envelopes were mailed out to Columbia’s early decision admits to the classes of 2012 of Columbia College and the School of Engineering and Applied Science Tuesday afternoon. According to admissions statistics, the combined admit rate fell slightly from last year.

CC received 2,162 Early Decision applications, an increase of 6% over last year’s numbers, and admitted 455. The SEAS received 420 applications, an increase of 1% over last year, and sent out 142 acceptance letters. CC accepted 21 percent of applicants and SEAS 33 percent. The combined admission rate was 23 percent, a drop from last year's rate of 24 percent fueled by a 5 percent increase in CC applications.

"The continued increase in the number of Early Decision applications is quite exciting---more and more extraordinarily strong students are choosing Columbia as their first choice school,” Director of Undergraduate Admissions Jessica Marinaccio said.

The accepted students represent 42 states and 35 countries outside the United States. “The Class of 2012 is off to an incredible start,” added Marinaccio. “So far, coming to Morningside Heights in the fall will be students who grew up on farms, students who grew up down the street, students representing the diversity of experience, voice, and background that we truly value here.”

Regular decision applications are due in on January 2, 2008. Decisions letters will be sent out during the first week of April.
