Columbia announced on its Web site Friday evening that student registration for the ServiceNation Presidential Forum will be extended until Monday at 8 a.m. due after a day of technical difficulties. Students have reported difficulties in registering through the site due to the high traffic on the servers.

Registration for next week's Presidential Forum began online Friday at 9 a.m., and the outpouring of visits to the Web site by students, faculty and staff drastically slowed down Columbia servers. Students have complained that they were unable to access the registration page, and many were shut out of the Web site even after repeated refreshing. Others said they were confused as to whether their registration actually went through the system.

"After the Fun Run I cooled down, but trying to register for the event got me all heated up again," Jason Alarcon, CC '10, said.

Columbia University Information Technology does not manage the server handling the registration, though some students wondered why the site had not been moved to a higher capacity system.

The registration period was originally scheduled to end at 4 p.m. Friday.

“Everyone will have an opportunity to register for the forum,” Columbia said in the announcement.
