With the election only weeks away, Spectator Opinion asked six different campus political groups to write about the most important issue in this campaign. Landon Tucker of the College Republicans points to government programs as the cause of the economic crisis, while Zach Sims highlights the economy as the most important problem facing the new president. On an international scale, Shlomo Bolts and Mujib Mashal of Columbia’s Amnesty International draw attention to the lack of dialogue concerning displaced Iraqis, and Masood Manoochehri questions the military-intervention policies of both candidates. Akua Gyamurah and Matt Swagler of Columbia’s International Socialist Organization examine the virtues of a government that focuses more on the people than on big business, and Nick Shea of the Columbia Political Union emphasizes the duty to vote. This is part one of a two-part series on the upcoming election. If you are interested in contributing to part two, e-mail us at opinion@columbiaspectator.com.
