The Columbia men’s and women’s golf teams saw their action cut short due to inclement weather throughout the Northeast over the weekend.

Rain forced the women’s team to cancel practice on Friday, and play was also suspended on Saturday at the Yale Invitational in New Haven, Conn. Flooding on the rain-soaked course caused water to splash each time a player’s ball hit the field.

Officials decided on Sunday morning to cancel any further competition for the day. The team was scheduled to get a shot at Ivy League competition after finishing in the top half of their last two events.

The men’s team managed to finish third in what was left of the rain-shortened Cornell Invitational.

The three-round event was curtailed, as continuous rainfall in the Ithaca area on Saturday and Sunday forced officials to cut the event down to just one round of play.

The Lions shot a 290 in the only round of the tournament. Freshman Brendan Doyle shot a 70 to lead Columbia and tie for third place individually. Sophomore Clark Granum shot a 72 to earn a tie for 10th place. Sophomore Austin Quinten tied for 13th place with a score of 73.

Freshman Sam Mysock and sophomore Justin Lee rounded out the Lions’ scores with scores of 75 each, good for 29th place.

Columbia beat out Ivy foes Dartmouth (finished 4th), Cornell (5th), Penn (7th), and Princeton (9th).

Next week, both the men’s and women’s teams will play in the Alumni Tournament on Oct. 3 in Tuxedo Park, N.J.
