» Students Struck By Spate of Assaults Near Morningside

Seven Columbia students were assaulted in a series of incidents near the Morningside campus late Sunday night, according to an alert Monday from the Office of Public Safety. The assaults all occurred between 12 a.m. and 1 a.m. and were each within a block of campus. At least one of the students was robbed of property.

Though the alert from the office of Ken Finnegan, Public Safety's Director of Investigations and Technology Projects, offered no information about whether the assaults might be connected, it did provide some consistent details. Each of the students was physically assaulted and reported "being approached and/or surrounded by a group of five to seven" males in their twenties, according to the alert.

The locations of the assaults included West 113th Street near Broadway, West 114th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue, and West 117th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, and West 122nd Street and Broadway.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the New York Police Department's 26th Precinct.
