For the second consecutive year, a Columbia student has won a Rhodes Scholarship. R. Jisung Park, CC '08, who has researched sustainable development, won one of the prestigious awards Saturday.

Park will use his prestigious scholarship to Oxford to work towards a masters degree in nature, society, and environmental policy, according to The Rhodes Trust, the organization which administers the awards. Park, who studied at Oxford last year, has done research on sustainable development both at Columbia and in rainforests in Australia.

This marks the second consecutive year that a Columbia student has won a Rhodes after a five year drought for the school. Last year, Jason Bello and George Olive, both CC '08, won Awards. The Rhodes is considered the most prestigious award in academia and comes with two or three years of study at Oxford as well as a network of high-profile Rhodes alumni. Each year, around 80 scholarships are given worldwide, 32 of which are given in the United States.
