Senior Megan Lessard competed in the final race of her cross country career at Columbia on Monday at the NCAA Championships. Lessard raced as an individual and was the only Lion to lace up her spikes in Terre Haute, Ind.

Out of a very competitive field of the nation’s top runners, Lessard placed 58th with a time of 20:53.9. The senior failed to earn All-American honors, but did place in the top 100. Last year, Carmen Ballard, CC ’08, placed 23rd overall and walked away with All-American recognition and the best finish in the Ivy League.

Among the other Ivy competitors, junior Liz Costello of Princeton ran and placed 15th overall, the top finisher from the Ancient Eight. Senior Megan Brandeland was another Tiger who ran well, coming in 52nd place, only slightly above Lessard.

Senior Sally Kipyego of Texas Tech took home the individual title, crossing the finish line in 19:28.1, while the University of Washington won the women’s championship title. Princeton placed fifth in the nation.
