Dockery Resigns University Senate Seat After Impeachment Discussion

Tiffany Dockery, CC ’09 and one of Columbia College’s three University senators, submitted her resignation in an e-mail to the co-chairs of the Student Affairs Caucus on Saturday.

Her resignation comes after Friday’s SAC meeting, during which members discussed her impeachment for poor attendance. No formal vote was taken at the meeting.

“Tiffany’s resignation happened quite unexpectedly, as we had hoped to discuss the issue of attendance with her before taking any action towards impeachment,” co-chairs Amena Cheema and Genevieve Thornton wrote in an e-mail.

Because the resignation came after the first-year elections, the Columbia College Student Council constitution and bylaws dictate that nominations for a temporary senator will come from students, a process which will last until the beginning of the spring semester. At that point, CCSC will conduct interviews and hold a vote. The nominee must win with a two-thirds majority.

“It becomes a whittling down process,” said Monica Quaintance, CC ’10, and another University senator.

The temporary senator will serve until spring elections, when Dockery’s seat is up for re-election. Both Dockery and Columbia College’s third senator, Rishika Samant, CC ’09, are one-term senators. Quaintance is a two-term senator and has one more year in her term.
