Columbia College Student Council President George Krebs announced the nominations for the open one-term University Senate seat Saturday afternoon.
The nominees are Billy Freeland, CC '09, Dov Friedman, CC '09, Alex Frouman, CC '12, Matt Heiman, CC '09, Isaac Lara, CC '11, Michael Marion, CC '09, and Kate Redburn, CC '10.
CCSC will conduct candidate interviews during their meeting on Sunday, with time for "public comment" and council deliberations. The council will then vote among the nominees, and announce its choice by the end of tomorrow's meeting.
The Senator will be a member of the Student Affairs Caucus at the University Senate, and sit on Senate committees made up of faculty, administrators and students. The Senator will also sit on a CCSC subcommittee.
The seat opening comes after Tiffany Dockery, CC'09 and one of the College's three University senators, resigned in early December. The Student Affairs Caucus had been discussing the possibility of impeaching Dockery due to a poor attendance record, though no vote had been taken at the time of her resignation.
Because Dockery resigned after the first-year elections, CCSC constitution and bylaws dictated that nominations for a temporary senator come from students. After the CCSC conducts its interviews Sunday night, the nominee must win a two-thirds majority to be named to the seat.
Dockery's seat is up for re-election in the spring.
