The race is on for Engineering Student Council executive board positions, as early Monday morning's candidates announcement kicked off an intense process of internal elections.

Leading the pack is a head-to-head race for council president between executive board veteran Whitney Green, SEAS’10, and class representative Gunnar Aasen, SEAS’10. Green currently serves as ESC Secretary, and Aasen is a class of 2010 representative.

The Vice Presidents of Intergroup and Student Life races are also two-candidate matches, with class of 2010 Intercouncil Events Director Varun Gulati competing against CCSC liaison Kimberly Lipman-White, SEAS ’11, for VP of Intergroup. Class of 2010 VP Joffre Andrade and 2011 VP Chris Elizondo will square off for the Student Life position.

The two more competitive races—those for VP of Policy and Secretary—feature five and three candidates respectively. For VP of Policy, Sam Braiman, SEAS ’11, class of 2010 representative Kelly Chen, Professional Development and Alumni Affairs representative Eric Hirani, SEAS’11, Student Services Representative Emma Lebwohl, SEAS ’11, and 2011 class representative Albert Miller will all pursue the position; Heidi Ahmed, SEAS ’11, GSSC liaison Epsita Hoque, SEAS ’11, and SEAS student Jennifer Vettel are all candidates for the Secretary seat.

While other council e-board elections are put to a student-wide popular vote, the ESC chooses these positions internally, though anyone can run. Internal elections will be held at a closed-door ESC meeting Tuesday night. Elections for other positions, such as class presidents, representatives, and senators will be held in April. Applications for these positions will be due April 5.
