Coming off of a 12-6 loss at the hands of Ivy League foe Yale, the women’s lacrosse team will host nonconference opponent Bryant University on Saturday. Columbia (5-6, 0-5 Ivy) has had a rough season in the Ivy League thus far, but has played well outside of the powerhouse conference. The Lions are 5-1 against nonconference teams and will look to bolster that record against Bryant (3-8).
In its last contest against Yale, Columbia had its chances to knot the game up late, but could not find the net in the end. The Bulldogs led the game 3-2 early on, then pushed it to 5-3 after dominating the Lions on draws—picking up six draws compared to the Light Blue’s two. Senior Holly Glynn was a bright spot for Columbia, netting a goal to bring the score to 5-4, but Yale pulled away, scoring four unanswered goals. In net for the Lions was Emma Mintz, who made 10 saves. Brittany Shannon led the Lions by scoring a hat trick, while Glynn scored two goals and two caused turnovers.
Bryant is coming off a 21-6 drubbing at the hands of Brown. Bryant found itself down 15-3 at the end of the first half, and then was outscored 6-3 in the second half to set the final score. Brown boasted 12 different scorers in the game, scored just 23 seconds into the game, and never trailed the entire contest. The Bears scored early and often, going up 5-0 before Bryant could put one in the back of the net.
Bryant was led by Delia Glover, who had three goals on four shots, and Allison Faiola, who had two goals on four shots along with two draw controls. In net for Bryant were two players—Jessica Bolton played more than 40 minutes and Lauren Filippone played just under 20. Filippone started the game and made five saves in the first half. She was replaced by Bolton, who made five saves during the rest of the contest, including two in the first half.
Bryant averages just over 23 shots per game, while allowing over 33 to its opponents, a difference the Lions will look to take advantage of. Bryant also allows opponents to score nearly 14 goals a game, while only averaging 9.36 itself. Glover leads the team with 28 goals and has connected on 50.9 percent of her shots on goal this season.
Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. at the Baker Athletic Complex.
