The fire alarm bellowing through Hartley Hall awakened residents at around 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning, after smoke from burning food in an eighth floor kitchen set it off in the wee hours of the morning.
Columbia Public Safety Officers confirmed there was no fire.
Around a hundred chilly students huddled outside the building, unsure why they had been evacuated out of their dorm for the second time since last weekend, when a laundry room fire broke out in the basement.
This was the second smoke-related dorm evacuation since Friday morning, when residents of the Nussbaum dorm at 600 West 113th St. were awakened early by the alarm from a fire in neighboring Community Food & Juice restaurant.
