At campus’s Northwest corner, you’ll notice a brand new piece of architecture that stands out from its red-bricked neighbors: the Interdisciplinary Science Building.
The 14-story building on Broadway and 120th Street was topped off in December 2007—meaning the highest beam was raised—and is sheathed in glimmering aluminum. As its title promises, the building is meant to foster relationships and collaborative research between researchers in different fields of science. The building is slated to open later in 2010, and cost about $179 million to build off renderings by Spanish architect Jose Rafaél Moneo. At this point, it is unclear precisely who is moving where, and how vacant offices across campus will be used.
