The Columbia women’s soccer team looks to earn its third victory of the season when it hosts Central Connecticut State University on Tuesday night. The Lions (2-3-1) had won two consecutive games before tying Hofstra University and losing to St. John’s University over the weekend.

Columbia must regain its offensive rhythm in order to be successful this year. The Lions scored a total of seven goals in their two victories but found the back of the net just three times in their other four matchups.

Senior forward Sophie Reiser has tallied four goals this season but was quiet over the weekend. She took two shots in each game but did not score in either of them. Reiser powered Columbia to a 4-0 win over Manhattan College with a hat trick and scored once in the Lions’ 3-1 victory over Iona, but she must consistently lead Columbia’s offense.

While Reiser needs to be an offensive force for the Lions, she will not shoulder the entire scoring burden. Sophomore forward Ashlin Yahr has also scored a team-high four goals this year and will continue to play a key role in Columbia’s attack. Yahr was the only Lion to find the back of the net over the weekend, contributing one goal in each game. On Monday, she was named an Ivy League Player of the Week along with Penn forward Jessica Fuccello.

Central Connecticut State (2-4-1) will try to end a four-game losing streak that began Sept. 7. The Blue Devils were most recently shut out, 4-0, by No. 6 Boston College. Senior midfielder Leah Blayney leads Central Connecticut State with four goals, while junior midfielder Clio Tregear has found the back of the net on three occasions.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Columbia Soccer Stadium.
