Starting today at 11 a.m., 11 athletes from the men’s swimming and diving team will dive in at the ECAC championships. Since a limited number of competitors can swim in the Ivy Championships next weekend, the ECAC meet provides an opportunity for the rest of the swimmers to compete against other Ancient Eight athletes and experience a championship event.

For Columbia, 11 swimmers—including Adam Bulkley, Nate Mormann, and Shane Tutass—will have their time to shine in the pool today.

Head coach Jim Bolster explained by email, “the top 16 swimmers in each event from the morning preliminaries return to swim finals at night. One of our goals will be to have each one of our guys get at least one evening swim.”

Bolster noted that the team looks forward to the performances of Bulkley, Mormann and Tutass, who each have the potential to swim in three finals at night.

While the team will look to these three specifically, “the bottom line will be to have our guys swim their lifetime best times,” said Bolster.

“As a team our goal will be to finish in the top ten. Each team is allowed to bring 18 athletes and the face that we have only 11 will handicap us some, but if our guys meet their expectations and our relays perform at their best we have a shot at finishing in the top ten,” Bolster claimed.

Competition begins today at 11 a.m. in Pittsburgh, Pa. The rest of the Lions race next weekend in the Ivy League Championships in Princeton. N.J.
