The women’s fencing team finished second in the Ivy League for the second year in a row. The Light Blue managed to defeat five of its six opponents in the Ivy League Championships, which spanned two weekends, falling only to champion Princeton.
On day two of the Ivy Championships, the women narrowly defeated the reigning champion Harvard, 14-13, and they triumphed over Penn 16-11. Their only loss, to the Tigers, was a close one, as they fell 15-12, giving them a 5-1 Ivy record.
Senior Daria Schneider, sophomores Sammy Roberts and Neely Branfield-Harvey, and freshman Lydia Kopecky were all named first-team all-Ivy, while junior Jackie Jacobson and freshman D’Meca Homer earned second-team honors.
The men did not fare as well as the women, losing all three of their matches, finishing 0-5 in the Ivy play. However, Jeff Spear did earn first team honors.
