The No. 55 men's tennis team earned its biggest win of the season, and one of the biggest upsets in recent memory on Monday, when it upset No. 39 Texas Christian University on the road. The match was scheduled to be played outdoors, but was forced to move indoors because of inclement weather, something which certainly benefited the Lions, as they play indoors year round.
The Lions played some of their best doubles of the season against the Horned Frogs—winning the crucial doubles point—by winning at the No. 1 and 2 spots.
Senior co-captain Jon Wong played his best tennis of the season, dismantling the Horned Frogs No. 1 player 6-1, 6-2. Freshman Cyril Bucher at No. 4 dropped his first set, but rebounded to win the next two sets, 6-4, 6-4. Sophomore Rajeev Deb-Sen won a tight match at No. 5 to clinch the win, after fellow sophomore Haig Schneiderman dropped a close match at No. 3 singles.
Freshman Nathaniel Gery was defeated 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 singles, but the result of the match was already decided. At No. 2 singles, senior co-captain Mihai Nichifor dropped an incredibly tight match at No. 2 singles to the No. 99 player in the nation.
The Lions will next be in action today, when they take on Southern Methodist University.
