The swimming season is almost over, but the Lions are not done yet.
This weekend, the Columbia men’s swimming squad (6-4, 4-3 Ivy) will be participating in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship swimming meet. The competition—which runs from Friday through Sunday—is a major opportunity for the swimmers not participating in next week’s Ivy League Championships to see action in the pool for a final time this year.
The meet will take place in Pittsburgh, Pa., and comes at the tail end of a successful season for the Light Blue. Despite losses against the conference’s top teams, Harvard and Princeton, the Lions competed well in the Ancient Eight. Their last meet of the season was a 162-138 win over Dartmouth.
Columbia is the only men’s team in the conference competing at the ECAC Championship this weekend. However, the Lions will again see action against Navy, which beat them 179-121 in the regular dual-league meet season. Columbia is one of 29 teams participating in the event. Others include Boston College, Bucknell University, and the U.S. Military Academy.
This weekend will be the final week of action for most members of the men’s swimming team. Next Thursday, the team’s top 16 swimmers will travel to Princeton and participate in the most important meet of the year, the Ivy League Championships.
