Seventeen months after construction began, the official opening of the Campbell Sports Center at the Baker Athletics Complex will take place this Saturday at Homecoming. The five-story, 48,000 square foot space was designed by Steven Holl Architects, and is meant to demonstrate the union of body and mind. Campbell will primarily be the new home of the varsity sports that practice and play at Baker including football, baseball, field hockey, lacrosse, and the men’s and women’s soccer and tennis teams. Some of the spaces include classrooms and study areas for the athletes, an auditorium, office spaces for coaches, and a state-of-the-art strength and conditioning center. The Campbell Sports Center is a key component of the $100 million athletics fundraising project that began in October 2007.
