Bollinger announces J-School dean search committee

Journalism School students, faculty, and administrators will serve on the committee searching for the school’s next dean, University President Lee Bollinger announced Wednesday.

Earlier this month, Nicholas Lemann, who has been dean since 2003, announced his decision to step down from his position at the end of the academic year.

The committee is comprised of J-School affiliates as well as “representatives from the extended Columbia community,” according to a statement.

Committee members will interview candidates and submit recommendations to Bollinger, who will then work with Provost John Coatsworth and his staff to make a final decision.

Bollinger will chair the committee, which includes Ann Cooper, director of the broadcasting graduate program; Thomas Edsall, professor; Howard French, professor; LynNell Hancock, professor; KC Ifeanyi, J-School student; Nilda Mesa, chief administrative officer; Mirta Ojito, professor; Michael Schudson, professor; Sree Sreenivasan, chief digital officer; Duy Linh Tu, head of the digital media program; and Betsy West, professor.
