The men’s golf team continued to impress this weekend, claiming second place at the Patriot Collegiate. The Lions finished 20 over par (872) at Laurel Hill Golf Club in Lorton, Va. After a shaky first round, Columbia matched the invitational’s champion, Marshall University, shot for shot in the second and third rounds of play. Sophomore Harrison Shih led the Light Blue, placing third individually with 212, one under par. The men will return to the course Oct. 6 for the Army Invitational at West Point Golf Course.
The women’s golf team took fourth place at the 2013 Nittany Lion Invitational at the Penn State Blue Course over the weekend. Among 14 teams in Happy Valley, the Lions finished 29 over par, with a total score of 893. Kent State posted an 873 to win the invitational by four strokes, led by Jennifer Ha and Josee Doyon, who took the top two spots. Senior Michelle Piyapattra continued to lead the Light Blue, shooting 224 for the weekend and tied for 11. The women will close out the fall season in two weeks at the University of Washington on Oct. 8-9.
