On its 250th anniversary, Columbia has become more preoccupied with tradition than ever before. What follows are two of my own traditions that I bequeath to my fair alma mater as graduation nears. I am not concerned about taking credit. I am merely a voice for the muses of Morningside.
Murray Wasserman isn't Portuguese. Fortunately for Luzia's, Luzia is. "The romance of a century" between the New Yorker and the Iberian produced a labor of love that sits unassumingly on Amsterdam between 80th and 81st Streets, waiting for a steady flow of regulars and newcomers.
I've always felt a special connection to Elvis. We have the same birthday. My hair was easily fashioned to match his mop for non-consecutive Halloween costumes. Though I was raised more on the Beach Boys and Beatles, I've always had a hunch that the King and I would have gotten on nicely.

Lee Bollinger played hard to get. After I worked as an usher and binged on Krispy Kreme doughnuts at his inauguration, things did not play out as I expected. I invited him to dinner and got no reply.
La Rambla could use some downsizing. Don't get me wrong: the new West Sider's stock has gone through the roof. But after eating there twice, I feel as though it may be a little too big for its britches.
Antonio is a restaurant guy. Ana is Antonio's daughter. Ana's is Antonio's restaurant.
If you can remember the numbers 82 and 25, a fine meal on the Upper West Side is at your fingertips. Kitchen 82 moved in on April 1--no fooling--and has since established itself as a force to be reckoned with in the neighborhood.
