The Columbia women's volleyball team is starting to realize something this season: it can play with anybody. The Lions beat Brown 3-1 on Saturday after losing a tight match to Yale Friday night. Columbia came out of the weekend 13-5 (1-2 in the Ivies).

The Columbia women's volleyball team fought to fifth games in matches this weekend against the University of Maine and Cornell. They lost by four points or less in each match, however, dropping to 12-4 on the season.

The second time around was not a charm for the Columbia women's volleyball team Tuesday night. Despite taking a 2-0 lead early in their match, the Lions ultimately fell to Long Island University 3-2 in Brooklyn.

The Lions had defeated LIU in straight games earlier in the season.

Half the team had never played a collegiate point. However, this weekend at the LIU-Columbia Invitational, the Lions never showed a hint of their team's inexperience, finishing the tournament in second place at 4-1 losing only to national powerhouse University of Maryland.
