Carlos Campos’ spring 2008 collection turns from his earlier visions of dark, dapper jet setters and rocker types to those of playful, pastel-hued resort-goers. The new collection maintains the precise tailoring and slim silhouettes of past seasons, but takes on the feel of a seaside vacation (or perhaps a Easter egg hunt for grown men) with its parade of whites, lilacs, and powdery blues. A slew of skinny white, gray, and light blue “signature” jeans were unveiled, and tiny deck shorts—typically paired with a shirt, tie, and calf-high socks—transformed the models into a quiet queue of overgrown schoolboys. The little Riviera scarves that hugged most of the models’ necks became repetitive, and the V-necks looked like an awkward take on a men’s boat neck shirt. Campos did finally swim back into familiar waters once gun-metal, onyx, and midnight suits began making their way down the runway, along with a few great flight jackets and band-collared button shirts. In spite of the periwinkle pastry palette, a few winners managed to emerge.
