Carlos Miele, purportedly inspired by the rendezvous between the music of Frank Sinatra and Brazilian musician Tom Jobim, successfully projected his vision of elegant resort wear onto this year’s spring collection. The designs were fresh and feminine, but not without a touch of spice, mirrored by the bossa nova beat to which the models sashayed down the runway. Miele combined loose off-the-shoulder tops, falling to reveal glowing summer skin, with fitted skirts and light wool pants for upscale, summery attire that would be perfectly at home in far-away St. Barth’s or even sunny Los Angeles. Exquisite rosettes, intricate beading, and delicate pleats demonstrated Miele’s attention to detail. These careful touches separate Miele from other like-minded designers, and were clearly recognized by the audience as murmurs of pleasure cascaded down the row when a champagne silk gown, decked entirely in rosettes, floated down the runway near the end of the show. It was, quite simply, the sumptuous icing on a show full of sweet surprises.
