Chris Benz’s tenure at Marc Jacobs and J. Crew were apparent in his sporty, flattering separates for spring 2008.  His fall show was nerdy chic, with models in quadruple breasted blazers, thick glasses, and oxfords.  Benz’s warm weather pieces are for a more sophisticated woman, but still someone who likes to have fun.  Hitting two key trends this season, the luxe clothes synthesized elements of French Riveria and 1970s style.  The models were grouped into “tableau vivants,” grouped by the vibrant colors of the collection--ranging from apricot, coral, pink, and beige to light green, chartreuse, turquoise, and navy.  The collection was never bogged down by retro references, as Benz’s expert color pairings and layering of textures exuded a decidedly up-to-date feel.  There were slouchy jackets and vests, shown over silky dressed or paired with wide-leg pants and floor-skimming slips.  Accessorized with raffia sun hats, chiffon scarves, and colored sunglasses, the collection made everyone in the audience eager for summer.
