For her spring 2008 collection, New Zealand native Rebecca Taylor chose a slouchy, yet form-fitting silhouette. Instead of the heavy layering from past seasons, Taylor opted for figure-skimming fabrics such as silks and chiffons. The structured accessories, including high-heeled spectator shoes and color-blocked sandals, provided a noteworthy contrast to the clothes. Metallics mixed with neutrals emerged as a theme, with many muted garments featuring bits of shimmer—ranging from a charcoal sleeveless dress dripping with sequins to an ivory flutter-sleeve blouse with metallic studs down the front. Taylor’s clothes were characteristically flirty without showing too much skin, and the designer chose richer than usual hues for spring, including bright fuchsias, blood reds, and royal purples. Rebecca Taylor’s combination of experimental spring colors and slim shapes provided an interesting alternative to the flowing, pastel clothing of seasons past.
