Reem Acra, known for her classic wedding gowns, sent some jaw-dropping ready-to-wear looks down the runway for spring 2008. Acra updated the familiar trends of past seasons—belted waists, brights, silk charmeuse, and pencil skirts. Romantic floral blouses in sheer organza, worn with flared skirts, marked a change from the dress-laden collections this summer. Hyper-feminine luxury popped up in shimmery fabrics, wide patent belts, and delicate heels finished in 22 Karat Gold. The best pieces, however, were the delicately beaded evening gowns (a nod to her bridal past and present) and well constructed day-to-night dresses in jewel-toned green and royal purple. Throughout, the shape of ‘50s and ‘60s screen sirens, complete with an impressive bust and nipped waist, ruled the runway.
