The heavyweight squad looked to continue its winning ways, while the women’s and lightweight teams searched for victories to add to their seasons. This was the last competition for all teams until they compete in the Eastern Sprints (EARC) in the middle of May. This past weekend leaves the Lions well-situated for this upcoming major competition.
Lions’ Heavyweight Rowing Scores Historic Victories Over Yale, Navy
This weekend was filled with exciting moments for the Columbia heavyweight rowing team, as the Lions brought two prestigious cups back home after a long absence. The first, the Blackwell Cup, came by defeating Yale and Penn for the first time in 67 years and the Maxwell Stephenson Cup was earned for the first time in 45 years as the Light Blue downed Navy. The lightweight team did not fare as well as its fellow rowers but was still able to have a strong showing.

This past weekend, the three rowing teams went into tough regattas with hopes of emerging victorious. Although the Lions were unable to accomplish this goal, they still improved from last week’s races and now look like contenders for their upcoming contests.

Eli Football Continues to Dominate
With the Yale football team’s victory this past weekend against Dartmouth, Yale continued to prove why it is the team to beat in the Ivy League. The Bulldogs (4-0, 2-0 Ivy) set the tone for conference play by thrashing Cornell by a score of 51-12 in week two of the season. The Bulldogs then went on to dominate Dartmouth on Saturday, 50-10. With those victories, Yale became the first team in the history of the Ivy League to score 50 points or more in two games in a single season. The Bulldogs can attribute their success to an impressive defensive line, and to the offensive production of junior tailback Mike McLeod.

Earlier this week, the Light Blue men's soccer team had an impressive 2-0 win against Adelphi, and the team hopes to build on positive momentum this Saturday against a slumping Yale.
The Lions' defense has kept the team alive throughout the season, allowing just a single goal in two previous games, and that against league-leading Dartmouth in a 1-0 loss last week.
Big Green Offense Continues Struggles
With Dartmouth dropping its fourth straight game this weekend, this time to Yale at home, the Big Green is now the Ivy League's only winless squad. In the first four games of the season, Dartmouth has been outscored by its opponents 127 to 45, with its worst loss coming at the hands of 1-AA powerhouse New Hampshire in a 56-14 throttling.
