Columbia's second varsity boat defeated Terriers as well, and the freshman team defeated both Syracuse and Boston University, the latter by a mere thirty-four hundredths of a second.

Rowing Improves in Weekend Races
On the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, Penn., the Columbia men's heavyweight rowing team showed vast improvement from last week, losing to Penn by a mere 2.5 seconds in the Blackwell Cup, while both teams fell to Yale.
Head coach Mike Zimmer was pleased with his squad's ability to be more aggressive, something that he had worked on with his crew the entire week leading up to the race.

Lightweights Improve At Dodge Cup in Philly
Despite having to row with a last-minute substitute, the men's lightweight rowing team performed exceedingly well, defeating Penn and only finishing a second and a half behind Yale in the Dodge Cup Saturday in Philadelphia.
It was a successful race, though there was more on the minds of head coach Marc DeRose and his oarsmen than just their race.
CU Readies for Tough Matches
All three Columbia rowing squads are looking forward to a busy weekend of action. The men's heavyweights have the Childs Cup in Pelham, N.Y. against Princeton and Penn, the lightweights will take part in the Dodge Cup in Philadelphia against Yale and Penn, and the women's rowing team will travel to Boston to participate in the Charles River Challenge against a plethora of opponents.
Heavyweight Rowers Take Alumni Cup
The Columbia rowing teams had a mixed weekend, with the heavyweight team coming up victorious against MIT and Holy Cross in the Alumni Cup for the third straight year, and the lightweights falling to Navy and Rutgers at the Wit Cup.
This is the second cup in as many weeks that the heavyweight squad has won, after last weekend's win in the Collins Cup at Rutgers.
Strong Showing for Heavyweight Crew
The Columbia rowing teams finished the weekend with mixed results, as the heavyweight men's squad took its third straight Collins Cup, while the men's and women's lightweight crews struggled.
The heavyweight first varsity boat defeated Rutgers 5:55.3-5:58.

All three Columbia rowing squads will be in action, each traveling to different areas of New Jersey to row against numerous Ivy and non-Ivy foes.

A lead midway through the race did not result in a win for the Columbia men's heavyweight rowing team. The heavyweight team took second at the 2007 Maxwell Stevenson Cup, beating George Washington but losing to Navy. The freshman boat, however, took first place with a time of 6:06.

The team returned home having won two out of the three events it participated in-the novice eight and the varsity eight. The Lions are off to a strong start in their new season, but head coach Melanie Onufrieff knows success will only come if every member of the team is focused and prepared.
Season Begins With Varied Results for Men's Rowing
The lightweight crew team had mixed results over spring break. For the second straight year, Virginia swept the Lions' varsity in the 1000-meters, winning all five races. Columbia was able to bounce back on Saturday at the FIT Invitational, defeating Florida Tech in the 2000-meter 6:00.

Hendrick Races Into Record Books at Heptagonals
Aspiring journalist and senior cross-country captain Susan Hendrick always knew she wanted to come to Columbia, even when she was in sixth grade.
"You know how you would write letters to yourself in middle school, and then your teacher would mail them to you in your senior year?" Hendrick asked.

As the Columbia track and field squad prepares to host its first Indoor Ivy League Heptagonal Championships in 52 years, head coach Willy Wood could not be happier to have all-Ivy senior Erison Hurtault on his side.

In the game against Harvard (9-9, 2-2 Ivy), sophomore Caleb Holmes of Yale scored a career-high 19 points, going 8-8 from the stripe and adding six boards.
