Field Hockey Holds Holy Cross Scoreless for Fourth Home Win
Columbia field hockey improved to 4-0 at home this season (4-5, 0-2 Ivy) in a convincing 2-0 victory over Holy Cross (3-8). Despite the Lions’ dismal 0-5 record on the road, junior Megan Davidson was pleased with the Lions’ play.
“We made a few changes to the lineup which allowed us to be more attacking,” Davidson said. “We adjusted very well to [Holy Cross] and were able to put a lot more shots on goal. Our defense did a great job of neutralizing their attack.”
Columbia had 11 shots to the Crusaders’ eight as Julia Garrison scored her second goal of the season at the 24:21 mark to put the Lions up 1-0. In the second half, Lauren Hanna too scored her second of the season with her first goal of the game at 48:49.
Freshman Caitlin Mullins, who joined the lineup this week, impressed teammates with her performance. “Caitlin really stepped up and did a great job—she brought some solid skills to the team,” Davidson said.
Davidson also remains hopeful for the rest of the season. “We’re looking to continue our undefeated streak at home,” she said. “We’re looking to restart our momentum heading into the second half of the season and hopefully win the rest of our games—home and away.”
Columbia’s season continues Saturday as it welcomes Brown (0-9, 0-2 Ivy) to the friendly confines of Wien Stadium at 1 p.m.
