A Campaign of Hate and Racism Coming to Campus?

Several weeks ago, the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) learned about a national campaign called “Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week,” scheduled for Oct. 22-26. After reviewing the campaign, ADC found a disturbing collection of propaganda prepared by a narrow-minded interest group with seemingly only one intention: to slander Arabs and Muslims on our nation’s college campuses.
The Web site asks students participating in the campaign to disseminate presentations, such as “The Islamic Mein Kampf.” The site also tries to connect Islam with fascism and Arabs and Muslims with Nazis. In fact, a blog by the director of this initiative, extreme conservative David Horowitz proclaimed that Palestinians are the “quintessential Islamo-Fascists” and that their cause is “genocidal.” Indeed, Horowitz’s personal Web site is home to comments such as, “There is no distinction in the American Muslim community between peaceful Muslims and jihadists,” and, “Put a complete stop to Muslim immigration, and find creative ways to deport all Muslim non-citizens. These two measures would be accompanied by the creation of an environment where the practice of Islam is made not easy but difficult.” Additionally, the David Horowitz Freedom Center claims responsibility for a presentation called “What Really Happened in the Middle East,” which promotes historically inaccurate information in snippets designed to promote prejudicial fear and hatred of Arabs and Muslims.
The Web site for IFAW lists approximately 150 institutions, including this one, at which it will be held. ADC contacted the presidents of each of these universities to let them know that the hate-filled campaign was scheduled to take place on campus. ADC expressed serious concerns that such rhetoric and speech will not serve to educate but only to promote hate and bigotry. The points of view espoused by this campaign are not ones that belong in any reasonable debate, as they serve to promote hatred of an entire religion or ethnic origin. While there is, and should be, ample discussion on college campuses about U.S. Middle East policy, with a diverse range of opinions present, the kinds of ideas that this campaign is trying to put forward are dangerous, hateful, and will only obviate the learning process and further Islamophobia and racism.
The overwhelming response ADC received from universities was that they did not want to be associated with this campaign. Numerous universities expressed outrage that their name was being associated with Mr. Horowitz’s IFAW hate campaign. ADC is glad to say that university presidents from Jerry Falwell Jr. at Liberty University and other evangelical schools, to Princeton, Cornell, and to the chancellors of various public state system universities and private colleges are firmly opposed to this type of campaign.
Although 150 schools are listed at the Web site, it seems very few, if any, are actually participating in IFAW. It appears that if Mr. Horowitz can gather a small group of narrow-minded students in a dorm room to watch one of his poorly produced propaganda films, he thinks he can list a university as a participant.
In reviewing the materials and the list of well-known Arabophobes and Islamophobes scheduled to speak, it is clear that this event is a celebration of hate speech and intolerance. And this type of intolerant hate-filled event stokes the flames of racism and bigotry. It has already been well-documented that the Arab-American and Muslim-American communities and anyone perceived to be a member of the communities have been the targets of hate crimes and discrimination. The FBI has reported that such crimes increased by a reported 1,600 percent after the horrific terrorist acts of Sept. 11.
Christian, Arab, Jewish, Sikh, Muslim, and other interfaith and non-sectarian groups have worked jointly and separately to promote tolerance and understanding and to maintain a safe and hate-free learning environment. While it appears that this campaign is not of the scope and magnitude it proclaims, ADC is still concerned that students would in any way try to bring this to campus. Some groups have an interest in describing world politics today as an all-out struggle between good and evil, and they try to do this by demonizing large groups of people. University students can lead the battle against hate into the next generation by opposing these sorts of campaigns on their campus today and when they enter the working world tomorrow.

The Website in question demonstrates this reality very well noting Israel is but 1/6 of 1% of the land mass of the Arabian world...the question is this - when the holocaust of the Zionists comes as the author suggests, will it be possible to separate Zionists from Jews? I think not - and neither should you. It is impossible to consider this threat to genocide as a message of peace - if you do see this message as one of peace, pray for forgiveness.

Does Islam teach hatred of non-believers?
The simple answer is YES!!
There is no place in the Qur'an where Muhammad commands Muslims to love people of other religions. By contrast there are at least three dozen verses that tell Muslims to fight against non-Muslims and about 500 that speak of their place in Hell. They are from each period in Muhammad's life, scattered across 87 of the Qur'an's 114 chapters.
To put this in perspective, nearly one out of twelve verses in the Qur'an says that Allah hates non-Muslims to the extent that he will torment them for eternity in horrible ways. The Suras that make reference to this comprise about 95% of the Qur'an's total volume. If Allah creates infidels merely to fuel the fires of Hell, then there is little reason for Muslims to believe that such lives are of any worth in this world either.

Hi Jordan, you know of course that Islam enjoys a large and influential ally among the non-Muslims: A new generation of “Useful Idiots,” the sort of people Lenin identified living in liberal democracies who furthered the work of communism. Useful Idiots are naïve, foolish, ignorant of facts, unrealistically idealistic, dreamers, willfully in denial. But Islam is political to the core. In Islam the mosque and State are one and the same—the mosque is the State. This arrangement goes back to the days of Muhammad himself. Islam is also radical in the extreme. Even the “moderate” Islam is radical in its beliefs as well as its deeds. Muslims believe that all non-Muslims, bar none, are hellfire bound and well-deserve being maltreated compared to believers.
But you already know these things, Jordan, otherwise you could not have written ALL those great posts. You have done your "Homework" when it comes to Islam and the promoters of Sharia. You will not be fooled by the so called “moderate” Muslims living under the stone-age laws of Sharia.
You know, of course that the “moderate” mainstream of Islam has been outright genocidal from inception. Their own historians record that Ali, the first imam of the Shiite and the son-in-law of Muhammad, with the help of another man, beheaded 700 Jewish men in the presence of the Prophet himself. The lesson is clear. Beware of the Useful Idiots who live in liberal democracies. Knowingly or unknowingly, they serve as the greatest volunteer and effective soldiers of Islam. The Qur'an is an ancient book. Any religion has its fundamentalists. You can see with this Christian fundamentalists, and Jewish fundamentalists in West Bank settlements. If you want to look at an ancient book and pick out parts of it you don't like thats fine. I too encourage people ot read the Qur'an, in the original Arabic, and look for Tafsir as well and conduct their own interpretations without letting someone in a web thread tell you what is in their and what it means. Find out for yourself.
The reality is that most Muslims, like most Christians and most Jews are not fundamentalists. In Islam the Qur'an is interpreted and the tradition of interpretation goes against fundamentalism. Why is it hate speech to raise awareness of the tenets of Islam that Islamic terrorists use to justify their actions and make note of the failure of moderate Muslims to even try to refute the terrorist’s interpretation of the teachings of Islam?
We often hear Muslims claim that the Islamic terrorists have defamed Islam just as cartoonists or Dutch film directors or others in the West have done. It seems pretty easy for the Imams to organize protests and riots against non-Muslims who they claim defamed Islam. But where are the mass protests against the Islamic terrorists? After all, aren't they guilty of doing the same thing?
I, and I believe many others who are concerned about the violence spewing forth from the Islamic world for the past 1300 years, are not saying all Muslims are terrorists. Just as not all Catholics follow the Church's teaching on birth control, not all Muslims follow the "slay the Pagans" (Qur'an 9:5) teachings.

The religion of Islam is based on the worship of the one true God and does not approve of worshiping or following human forms. Though, in Islam, Mohamed is a prophet of God (along with Jesus, Moses, Abraham and others) those who are members of the religion are worshipers of God, not Mohamed. The idea of worshiping an individual, as the term Mohamedean connotes, is anti-thetical to the religion and therefor offensive.
It is like calling Jews "Mosesians" when Judaism is about worshiping one God. It is misleading and wrong.
I say this under the assumption that your use of the term was unintended and not deliberate. I hope now that you are aware of the nature of this term you will refrain from using it.

First he assumes Mr. Munayyer is a Muslim while there is nothing in the Op Ed to indicate such. This is a perfect example of the type of generalized hate that Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week espouses. Broad generalizations about a persons political view, background, religion and affiliations are made on no reliable grounds. He presupposes that someone who criticizes hate speech toward Muslims must be a Muslim. This is sad. In fact, interfaith groups at campuses across the country are opposing this rhetoric making it clear that the proponents of this world view are the true extremists.

Indeed, Mr. Horowitz HAS EVERY RIGHT to appear on this campus. If you don't like it, don't go! I was "offended" by the appearance of murderous dictator Ahmadinejad, so I just didn't go! Hey - you want a "hater" supreme who is responsible for untold murders and executions and stonings - there's your man, Ahmadinejad. Conversely, I don't believe that Mr. Horowitz - a Jew, btw, and of course we all know how much Islam loves Jews! - has ever murdered anyone! In addition, Ahmadinejad has announced on numerous occasions that "Israel should be wiped off the map." Oh, the love he emanates! A veritable fountain of love! By contrast, I don't believe that Mr. Horowitz has ever said, "Iran (substitute any ME country) should be wiped off the map!"
I take "offense" at your word "slander." There's not going to be any "slander" going on - why doesn't someone purposely take the job of "PC Police" at IFAW just to make certain that doesn't happen?! Uh huh - what are you so afraid of? If you weren't afraid of what Horowitz et al has to say, you wouldn't give him the time of day! As Voltaire said, "It is the characteristic of the most stringent censorships that they give credibility to the opinions they attack." Credibility. Think about it. You are so hyperbolic with all of your "hate hate hate" rhetoric! For one thing, "hate" is an emotion - you can't police peoples' emotions! What are you, the Orwellian "1984" thought-police? I realize that in Islamic countries there is no freedom of speech or press - BUT THERE IS IN AMERICA. DEAL WITH IT.
Oh, and as far as "demonizing large groups of people" - you Muslims do that very well for yourselves. Since 9/11, there have been over 9,000 DOCUMENTED Islamic terrorist attacks worldwide. These are all available for people to read about on thereligionofpeace.com website. They are FACTS. I realize that PC people are "fact-proof," but for those who are still able to think with their own minds, visit that website. I resent your attempt at "silencing" "muzzling" "censoring" people who feel DIFFERENTLY than you, Yousef, under the guise of "hate speech." Sorry, for me and many others, it's "truth speech."
Finally, I'd like you to substantiate your FBI data - we're just supposed to take your word for it? And, what are examples of "hate crimes" you refer to? Putting a Koran in a toilet, LOL?!
