Men’s Soccer Still in Search of First League Win

PUBLISHED OCTOBER 19, 2007

The Columbia men’s soccer team (2-1-7, 0-2 Ivy) will resume its search for its first Ivy League victory this Saturday against Dartmouth. Following a string of losses to start the season, the Lions picked up their pace recently with a win against American University.

Their last two Ivy League matchups, however, have been rough, with a 3-2 loss at the hands of Penn followed by a 2-0 loss to Princeton in New Jersey. In both contests, the Light Blue defense faltered in the second half, surrendering three goals to the Quakers after halftime, while the Tigers scored their first goal at the close of the first half and their second goal a short while into the second.

The Lions are back in action against Dartmouth on Saturday. The Big Green should look out for Hayden Johns and Tom Smith, who each have scored a team-leading two goals this season. Also of note is freshman Bayo Adafin, who scored his first goal as a Lion against the Quakers.

The Big Green (8-2-2, 1-1-0 Ivy) will be tough competition for the Light Blue. Dartmouth also faced Penn last week, beating the Quakers by a score of 2-0. The Big Green has two powerhouse players, junior Craig Henderson and freshman Andrew Olsen, who lead the team with four goals each. Senior Mike Ordonez has also done his share this season with three assists. The Lions will need to mark them closely in order to have a chance to succeed.

Unfortunately, the Lions will not have home field advantage this weekend. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. on Friday in Hanover.
