Scoreless Second Half Leads to Tie for Women’s Soccer at Dartmouth

PUBLISHED OCTOBER 22, 2007

Amidst rain and wind, the Columbia women’s soccer team traveled to Hanover on Saturday to face Dartmouth. The two teams were alike in record, and by the end of the day the two were alike in score—after 110 minutes of play, neither team was able to break away, and a 1-1 tie was the result.

Dartmouth’s Ali Hubbard scored in the 13th minute on an assist from Peyton Tata.

Columbia answered later in the first half when senior forward Lindsey Knowles headed in her fourth goal of the season on a cross from sophomore Sophie Reiser. Freshman forward Keri Nobil was also credited with an assist on the play.

But after that goal neither team was able to come up with a score in the final 72 minutes of play. The Lions were obviously the aggressors throughout the game, putting up nine shots on goal to Dartmouth’s six. Unfortunately for the Light Blue, however, it was unable to break the tie and score the go-ahead goal as Big Green goal keeper Amanda Webb came up huge, saving eight of the nine shots she faced.

In goal for the Lions was junior Rebecca Taylor who was making her first start in Ivy League play. She got off to a rough start, as the first shot on goal that she faced flew by her into the top left corner of the goal. After that goal in the 13th minute, however, Taylor was flawless, saving all of the remaining five shots that she faced.

Freshman forward Kelly Hostetler led the Light Blue attack, putting up five shots, including four on goal, but was unable to get any of them past Webb. Reiser followed Hostetler’s lead, shooting three times and putting two of those shots on net. Through 14 games, Reiser leads the Lions with seven assists, 15 points, and 44 shots.

The Lions have three games remaining and will be back in action on Friday night at 7 p.m. against Yale at Columbia Soccer Stadium.
