Man Suspected in String of Robberies

The same man is suspected of committing at least six late-night robberies of young women between 115th and 125th streets over the past two months, police said Friday.
Police are searching for a suspect who has not been identified by name, but is described as a black male in his 30s, between 5’8” and 5’11”, and 165 pounds, with brown eyes and a beard. Police have released a surveillance photo of the suspect.
In the first robbery, committed in mid-August, the suspect approached a 21-year-old woman with a knife on 123rd Street and robbed her. In the second, he grabbed a 23-year-old woman from behind, punched her, and took her belongings.
The other robberies followed a similar pattern, with the suspect either punching the victims or threatening them with a knife or simulated firearm. All attacks took place between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m., and all the victims were women in their 20s.
At least two of the robberies were committed against Columbia students. At 3:20 a.m. on Sept. 1, the suspect approached two female students on 118th street with an imitation gun, and robbed them. At 3:40 a.m. on Sept. 2, he robbed two female students at knifepoint on 115th street.
Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to call 1(800)577-TIPS.

I hate to say it but maybe we need wireless surveillance cameras so our police can work (read monitor) the streets more effectively. I know there has been significant backlash in London over the "big brother is watching you" cameras they installed but im sure crime is lower there.
