Saturday, January 26 — Get Him Eat Him, a self-promoting indie rock band from Providence, Rhode Island, just finished its fourth national tour, which included dates with Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Arcade Fire, and The Walkmen. With their catchy guitar, synth-speak, and a lead singer who can actually sing, this concert will probably play more like a dance party. Southpaw at 9, tickets are $12 at the door.
Sunday, January 27 — Laura Veirs, a singer-songwriter from Portland, is recovering from the cancellation of her tour with The Decemberists by rocking out one last time in New York before flying to Europe. Veirs also teamed up with The Decemberists as the female vocalist on their latest album. She’s playing at Union Hall at 9:30. Tickets are $15 at the door.
Monday, January 28 — Kid Sister, the girl who teamed up with Kanye West to record “Pro Nails,” is playing at the Bowery Ballroom with Chromeo, a synth and talk box duo featuring a Columbia grad student. Promising to be one of the most interesting and entertaining concerts of the week, the show is only $15 and starts at 8.
Tuesday, January 29 — Vampire Weekend’s 16+ show is sold out. There are literally no other worthwhile concerts on Tuesday. You shouldn’t be going to concerts on a Tuesday night, anyway.
Wednesday, January 30 — Wednesday got you down? Here’s a hump day treat. Vampire Weekend (the Columbia darling) is playing with Plastic Little and Big A little a at the Bowery Ballroom. The show is promoting VW’s self-titled debut album, set to hit stores on Tuesday. Unfortunately, the show is 21+. In fact, almost every concert on Wednesday is 21+—sorry kiddies, no hump day treat for you.
Thursday, January 31 — Looking for a good free concert to ring in next weekend? Try The Teenagers and Sluttt’s concert at the Hiro Ballroom at the Maritime Hotel. A European synth-pop trio, The Teenagers have shared their obsession with Scarlett Johansson with the world in their hit single, “Scarlett Johansson.” If you enjoy the background music in those awful soft-core pornos on Cinemax, you’ll love The Teenagers. Free with online RSVP.
