Concert Calendar
Feb. 17 - Butane Variations
The members of garage punk/country ensemble Butane Variations are native New Yorkers, and it shows—their uniqueness typifies the city. This diverse quartet’s music defies mainstream song structure, and their concerts are just as fresh. Want something different? This is for you. Tickets are only eight bucks. The show starts at 7 p.m. at the Mercury Lounge.
Feb. 18 - Les Paul and His Trio
Even at age 92, Les Paul, the father of the electric guitar, can still hack the axe like a god. Tickets to see this five-time Grammy winner and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer are a bit expensive at $45 each, but they are definitely worth the investment. The shows are Mondays at 8 and 10 p.m. at Iridium Jazz Club.
Feb. 21-24 - The Magnetic Fields
Find yourself slouching around in your dorm room? No worries. Stephin Merritt was too, at your age. Valentine’s Day may be long gone, but Merritt will revive those loving feelings with his romantic lyrics sung in his moving baritone voice so crucial to their distinct sound. The show is at Town Hall at 7 p.m. Tickets range from $25 – $30.
If these concerts don’t spark your interest, The Spice Girls, The Foo Fighters, Tokio Hotel, The Bravery, and Linkin Park are all playing in Manhattan this week!
