The lion may be the king of jungle, but on the lacrosse field today the Columbia Lions will need to prove themselves anew against the mighty Princeton Tigers, against whom they will take the field tonight.

Coming off three straight losses, two of them in conference games, the Lions will be looking to have a strong showing against Princeton to turn their season around. They will need to gain some momentum as they move into their next two games against Brown and Yale, respectively.

The Light Blue will have to put a good offensive fight to defeat the Tigers, who are ranked second in the nation and are undefeated on the season with a record of 7-0.
Princeton has historically been a very strong team, and is known around the league for being a formidable opponent, with an especially strong offense.

In the past ten seasons, the Tigers have outscored the Lions 166-33, with more than 15 goals in nine of the 10 games.

For the Lions, the key to victory will be their ability to keep control of the ball and not let Princeton gain an early lead. The Tigers are very good at holding the lead when they get it, and they have only trailed for 39 minutes out of 420 minutes in games this season.

The Lions will also need major contributions from each of their leaders on offense against a powerful offensive team like Princeton. Leading scorers Holly Glynn, Brittany Shannon, and Marisa Marcellino have 59 goals, combined. Columbia’s offense has proven to be deep, as ten different players have scored in eight games.

Goalie Emma Mintz is also having a strong season, with a .400 save percentage and 62 saves on the season. As a junior this year, she has had time to grow and improve in her position.

After tomorrow’s game, when the Lions move to playing two of the weaker teams in the conference—Brown is 1-1 and Yale is 2-1—the Lions are hoping to have turned a corner with their season.

While the game tomorrow at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium may not be destined to be as timeless as the Rumble in the Jungle, there is sure to be some excitement, as there always is when Lions and Tigers battle.
