Heavyweight Rowers Make History With 9-1 Record, Ready for Sprints
The Columbia University rowing program has had a very exciting year at the varsity heavyweight level, while the women's team and men's lightweights have struggled but always put up a fight against competitors. The Lions will finish their seasons in the middle of May when they compete in the Eastern Sprints.
The Lions' season got off to a great start when the varsity squads were able to go undefeated at the Governor's Cup in Florida. The Lions will try to make their season end similarly to the way that it started—with a victory.
The women faced a tough year, however, and were unable to come away with a first-place finish throughout the entire Ivy League season. However, they were able to finish in second place in several dual meets against Brown, Cornell, Princeton, and Rutgers.
The men's lightweight team had a very similar season to the women's team as it also began the spring with a victory and a first-place finish in the Governor's Cup. However, the rest of its season was filled with close second-place finishes and tough races. The men's lightweight squad hopes to end the season with a good showing at the Sprints.
The varsity heavyweight team, on the other hand, has had one of the best seasons in school history. It is coming away with an impressive overall record of 9-1 in the dual-meet season. The Lions have also been able to bring their fair share of hardware back to New York. The heavyweight squad won the Collins and Alumni cups but fell to Princeton in the Childs Cup. This would mark the heavyweights' only loss of the season, and Columbia would go on to win four more cups, including the prestigious Maxwell Stevenson and Blackwell cups. It was these victories that made Columbia one of the top rowing teams, not only in the Ivy League, but also in the nation. The Lions should be favored to finish among the top squads at the Eastern Sprints as they have continually stepped up in big races to pull out in front for close contests.

Since they were invited a couple of weeks ago, the story should have been updated to include their appearance at the Henley Royal Regatta July.
Get your facts straight. The varsity heavyweights have a 10-1 dual meet record.
