Barnard Hires New Study Abroad Dean

PUBLISHED OCTOBER 6, 2006

First-Year Class Dean Hilary Link will take over as Barnard's dean for study abroad, officials announced Friday.

The position has been empty since July, when former dean Janet Alperstein left for a job as the New York City director of academic affairs for Hebrew University. Link was appointed after the college reviewed 75 applications from all over the country.

Link's appointment leaves the position of first-year class dean empty-but officials said in a statement that Link will continue to fill that position in the meantime.

"I am very excited about this new position, and I am particularly excited to be remaining at Barnard while working in a new capacity," Link wrote in an e-mail. "The new position combines my passion for international experience and programming with my love for working with and advising students."

Link has experience working on such programs. She formerly designed and developed the curriculum for overseas programs at New York University.
