Link Chosen As BC Study Abroad Head
First-Year Class Dean Hilary Link will take over as Barnard's dean for study abroad, officials announced Friday.
The position has been empty since July, when former Dean Janet Alperstein left for a job as the New York City director of academic affairs for Hebrew University. Link was appointed after the college reviewed 75 applications from all over the country.
"Janet has done a superb job, we will make sure there's a superb successor," said Barnard President Judith Shapiro.
Barnard officials said in a statement that Link will continue to serve as first-year class dean until a replacement is found.
"I am very excited about this new position, and I am particularly excited to be remaining at Barnard while working in a new capacity," Link wrote in an e-mail. "The new position combines my passion for international experience and programming with my love for working with and advising students."
Link has experience working on similar programs. She designed and developed the curriculum for overseas programs at New York University.
